This is the fix for the most frustrating prepaid-card problem there is: the card has money on it, the store is online, and checkout still says declined. The cause is almost always a missing billing address.
A prepaid card with money on it that fails online almost always fails for one reason: there is no billing address on file for the address check to match against.
Why a gift card needs an address at all
It feels illogical. The card is anonymous by design, nobody asked for your name when you bought it, and yet an online store wants a billing address for it. The reason is that online merchants cannot see the card, cannot see you, and are liable for fraud losses on transactions where the card was not physically present.
To reduce that risk, the payment industry uses the Address Verification Service. At checkout the merchant sends the numeric parts of the billing address you typed — essentially the street number and the ZIP code — to the card issuer. The issuer compares them to what it holds on file and answers with a match code. A full match is a strong signal the real cardholder is present.
A gift card straight off a rack has nothing on file. The issuer cannot answer “match” because there is nothing to match against, and most merchant fraud rules treat a no-data response as a fail. The card is declined even though the money is sitting right there.

The practical takeaway: the street number and the ZIP code must match exactly. An apartment number in the wrong field or a ZIP+4 where a five-digit ZIP is expected are the two most common near-misses.
Registering your card, step by step

Open the official portal
Type mygift.giftcardmall.com into the address bar yourself. Identify the card with the 16-digit number, the expiration date and the three-digit security code — the same three fields as a balance check.

Find the registration option
The wording varies by card program. Look for register card, personalise card, manage card or add billing address. It usually sits near the balance display.

Enter your own billing address
Use your real address, formatted exactly as it appears on your other card statements or utility bills. Include the apartment or unit number in the field the form provides for it, not appended to the street line. Use the plain five-digit ZIP unless the form specifically asks for ZIP+4.

Registration is normally effective immediately. If a checkout has already declined once, give it two or three minutes before retrying — some merchants briefly cache a failed result.

At the payment step, choose to pay by credit or debit card — not “gift card”. That option is for the merchant's own closed-loop cards and will reject a Visa or Mastercard number.
- Card number, expiration date and the three-digit code, exactly as printed.
- Billing address identical to the one you registered, down to the apartment number.
- Order total at or below the available balance — including tax and shipping, which are easy to forget.
- Name field: use your own name. It is not part of the address check, but leaving it blank trips some merchant validation.
When the billing and shipping addresses differ
This is fine. AVS only looks at the billing address. You can register your home address, ship an order to a friend, and the check still passes.
A few merchants apply their own stricter rule and refuse orders where billing and shipping differ. That is a merchant fraud policy, not a card limitation, and there is no way to satisfy it other than shipping to the registered address or paying another way.

Is registering an address safe?
Registering on the official portal is a normal, expected use of the card and is the mechanism the card program provides. The address is used for fraud checking, and the card does not become linked to a credit file.
